Quercetin. How many Q-starting vitamins or minerals can you think of? Well, this is a valuable
one! A yellow pigment in plants used as a food supplement to reduce
allergic reactions or enhance immunity, quercetin is showing
itself to do more than just that! Its anti-inflammatory, immune-system
supporting, and gut microbiota-regulating elements to name a few
are getting the attention of Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C.. We feel that
our Auburn chiropractic patients will appreciate this
vitamin flavonoid even more!
INFLAMMATION
Quercetin as a flavonoid that are in herbs,
fruits (apples, berries), onions, seeds, nuts, and green tea is explained
as offering positive effects on human health by
controlling antioxidant activities, immune-modulatory effects,
and regulating metabolic pathways. How? By altering gene expression,
signaling pathways and controlling proteins and cytokines. Quercetin is supposed
to most likely affect the P12K/AKT pathway and help
neurodegenerative disorders, liver diseases, and diabetes. (1) Quercetin has
been shown to alleviate the neuralgia and the
inflammatory response of the sciatic nerve and spinal dorsal horn in rats with
chronic constriction injury. (2) Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C. is all for anti-inflammatory
responses when it comes to containing pain!
AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE
Quercetin’s reputation is maturing all the time! Its utilization in
treating and possibly inhibiting autoimmune
diseases which present themselves due to a
breakdown and dysregulation of the immune system is being examined.
Dietary supplementation is being implemented increasingly due to positive effects, relative safety, and low
cost. Quercetin stands out in this realm because
of its anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, and neuroprotective
benefits. Recent studies heralded
positive effects of quercetin on rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel
disease, multiple sclerosis, and lupus. (3) Auburn chiropractic patients
with autoimmune disease may want to consider whether quercetin may be helpful.
METABOLIC DISEASE
Quercetin is also standing out in
treatment of metabolic diseases like diabetes, hyperlipedemia, and nonalcoholic
fatty liver disease. Auburn chiropractic patients have
these types of issues, too. Animal experiments reported that
quercetin helped insulin secretion, enhanced
insulin resistance, lowered blood lipid levels, inhibited
inflammation and oxidative stress, alleviated hepatic lipid
accumulation, and synchronized gut microbiota.
Future human studies are dreamt of to discover a way to boost
the bioavailability of quercetin as well as record its effectiveness.
