Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C. Highlights Curcumin's Benefit for Neurological Diseases

June 09, 2020

4000 years of use. That is quite a history! Curcumin claims it. (Chiropractic enjoys its 125-year history!) Curcumin’s history of dietary use in Eastern countries like China and India gives much data to researchers to see just what an influence it makes on disease. And there’s a difference! Curcumin‘s anti-inflammatory ability is gaining recognition for positive effect on neurological diseases, cell death, and pain. Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C. remains interested in curcumin’s beneficial role in possible inflammation and Auburn back pain reduction.

CURCUMIN HISTORY

Curcumin has an expansive history of use over 4000 years (1) yet a shorter history of use in present day for its ability to modulate levels of a variety of neurotransmitters in the brain as well as preventing cell death. Curcumin influences inflammatory cytokines, growth factors, and enzymes. (2) Ten years ago researchers posited that curcumin could be a “future drug of therapy for the treatment of various neurological disorders.” Diabetic neuropathy, tardive dyskinesia, and major depression are a few of those such orders. They called for additional clinical studies back then to place curcumin into therapeutic use because of its “neuroprotective action” in diseases like Alzheimer’s, tardive dyskinesia, major depression, epilepsy, and other such neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties may add to its neuroprotectiveness. Curcumin’s ability to reduce or stop reactive astrocyte expression and thereby preventing cell death is beneficial. (3) Your Auburn chiropractor knows the role of cell death in degenerative spinal conditions like disc disease and values the potential curcumin possesses in dealing with cell death and reducing inflammation and thus decreasing Auburn back pain.

CURCUMIN DIET AND SUPPLEMENTATION

What is the optimal way to integrate curcumin for maximal benefit? Diet and/or supplementation. A curcumin rich diet is written to counteract diseases like cancer and diabetes as well as reduce inflammation. A new paper on curcumin brings to light the role curcumin plays in treating neurological diseases (spinal muscular atrophy, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis and more). In an effort to effect more attention to curcumin’s benefits, the authors share the cellular and molecular mechanisms and clinical trial outcomes regarding the use of curcumin in healthy people and people with such diseases. (1) Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C. realizes many Auburn chiropractic patients would like the simpler supplementation route which is quite simple and effective. Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C. will share what is right for you and your Auburn chiropractic treatment plan.
