Auburn CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Exercise the Quadratus Lumborum

The quadratus lumborum – a quadrilateral-shaped muscle - is a paired muscle on the left and right side of the abdominal wall. It is a deep muscle and typically thought of as a back muscle as it stretches from the upper 4 lumbar vertebrae to the 12th rib. When contracted, the quadratus lumborum produces lateral flexion of the lumbar spine and/or rise of the pelvis. (5) Several bridge-type exercises are being examined as to how they strengthen the quadratus lumborum’s dual layers of muscle in order for it to best add to the motor control of the lumbar pain and avert back pain. (6) Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C. and you can talk about how your spine may benefit from such exercise at your next Auburn chiropractic visit to Dr. Le's Chiropractic & Wellness, L.L.C..
